Dear Parents and Friends of DC

We hope that your dancer has had a great start to the term and they are settling in to all of their classes. We are very proud of our students for their positive start to the year and appreciate the effort they are putting in to their work. Teachers will expect that all students are now wearing their compulsory DC uniform as we are well into the term. If you would like to browse the requirements please head to: http://www.dancechora.com.au/uniform and shop online at anytime and don't forget to join the Facebook Dance Chora Buy, Swap and Sell page https://www.facebook.com/groups/546329505873025/

Could we ask that you please remind your dancer that we do not allow the use of mobile phones at DC. If students have a break or are waiting for a class, they can bring something other than a phone to pass the time. We prefer that they sit and chat to one another, practise routines and steps, bring a book to read or complete homework. Phones need to be kept in their bags at all times.

Please read on for all the latest news and info and add the important dates to your calendar!

ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE

At Dance Chora we teach Ballet in association with the Royal Academy of Dance. The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is a UK-based examination board specialising in dance education and training, with an emphasis on classical ballet.
We offer students the opportunity to participate in Ballet Examinations and Awards with the RAD from Grade 2 through to vocational levels. The examination and award process is a challenging yet rewarding one for students. It gives them a goal to work towards which helps secure the technical foundations for all genres of dance.

Throughout the exam students are marked on their ability to execute exercises demonstrating co-ordination, control, line, spatial awareness and dynamic values. Students are also marked on musicality, responsiveness to music, rhythm and performance quality. All these elements require a sound classical technique incorporating correct posture, weight placement and use of turnout. The award process gives students the opportunity to showcase their abilities of the exercises ,listed above, without a marking criteria. Award students also receive their certification of completion of the grade without a score.
To meet the recommended study hours and to prepare the students for the award or examination, students must attend 2 x classes a week on Wednesday and Saturday and must also be approved by Miss Kelly.

The improvements we have witnessed in our exam students in all areas of their dancing over the years have been astounding. Their technique, strength and musicality, as well as body and self-control, are undeniable. We highly recommend our dancers take on the award or exam process.
